Dr Holdright - Consultations

Dr. Holdright welcomes both UK and international patients. UK residents are requested to obtain a letter of referral from their GP or specialist prior to their appointment where possible, as this will ensure that we have an up-to-date medical history, and many insurance companies will also require this in order to process a claim.

Consultations are scheduled at 30 minute intervals, and the initial appointment will include the discussion of symptoms, clinical examination, and recommendations regarding any further investigation or a course of treatment. We appreciate that medical investigations can be time-consuming and worrying, and to alleviate some of this anxiety many routine cardiac tests can be carried out in our consulting rooms directly after your consultation. Please note, however, that any tests required to confirm a diagnosis or monitor a condition will be charged in addition to the consultation fee. Please contact the practice for a full breakdown of our consultation and investigation charges.

Private Medical Insurance

Dr. Holdright is recognised by all major private health insurance companies in the UK. Patients with private medical insurance must contact their insurance company prior to the appointment in order to obtain a pre-authorisation code or claim number. We will send the patient’s invoice directly to an insurer only if a pre-authorisation code is provided prior to the consultation. Please note, however, that any payment made by an insurer is considered to be a contribution towards the cost of treatment, and the ultimate responsibility for payment lies with the patient. It is therefore imperative that the exact level of cover and any potential shortfall (for which the patient will be liable) is established at the outset; insured patients are politely requested to leave their credit or debit card details with the practice so that any shortfall or excess may be deducted after the insurer has made their contribution. Please note that prior to all subsequent consultations patients should contact their insurance company for confirmation of entitlement to benefit and to obtain a corresponding authorisation code or claim number.

Self-funding patients and patients with international insurance policies (excluding BUPA International) are kindly requested to settle their account with us at the time of consultation – all major debit and credit cards are accepted (please note that a surcharge of 3.05% will apply to payments made by American Express).

Chaperone Policy

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination, or investigation. This person may be a friend or family member, but you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, and if so, you should notify us at the time of booking your appointment to allow us to make the necessary arrangements for you.

Repeat Prescriptions

We are happy to issue repeat prescriptions for our patients' usual cardiac medication. However, dangerous errors can occur when requests are made by telephone or fax, so all requests should be made in writing. There will also be a small administrative fee for prescriptions not issued during a consultation.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that should you need to cancel your appointment, 48 hours' notice must be given or an account will be rendered, set at the full cost of the consultation, which will not be eligible for reimbursement by an insurer.
